The beginning of my "farm".

This week I got a weathervane for the garden and I also got my chicken coop. I will begin planting my peas and cabbage and a few other things next week, if the weather is good. Hopefully my baby chicks will be in next week also. I am getting so excited for them!

Strawberries!!

I planted strawberries this week after the melting of the snow. I planted 50 plants. I hope they do well. The whole side of the house will be the strawberry patch.

Our progress

In addition to the yard work this weekend, I also managed to stain the deck. It is no wonder that Hannah ended up with a haircut from Alex on Saturday. Jeremiah and I were outside all day on Friday and Saturday. You can see pictures of Alex's handywork at http://zohnerfamily.com/
Also, my seedlings are coming up quite nicely. Now if only the weather can warm up again and stay that way so that I can plant them.

Groundbreaking

This Friday and Saturday we worked in the yard. We rented a sod cutter and relocated the sod from the backyard to the side of the house and made a strawberry patch. We also boxed in the garden area and brought in a whole truckload of mulch for the garden and flower beds. I am so excited for my garden now. I will be planting my lettuce, carrots and peas soon. Too bad it is snowing today.

Our Yard

We have some plans for our back yard. We are going to rent a sod cutter and make a garden area. You can see the area that we have outlined in black spray paint. Then we are also going to put in a patio at the end of the deck stairs. I am growing flowers from seed that I plan to put in along the back fence. We are also going to build a shed that will go under the deck. I am so excited for all of the plans for our yard. I will post more pictures as our work progresses.

Time to think about gardening!!

I am getting ready for Spring planting. I picked up this planting tray at WalMart for $6. I planted:
Black Eyed Susans which will go along my back fence
Shasta Daisies which will also go along my back fence
Carrots in my garden
Sunflowers which will grow in the corner of my yard
Peas,Watermelon, Sweet Corn, Zucchini and Tomatoes all in my garden.

I will post a picture when they start to sprout. Somewhere between March 25th and April 1st.
